A Joyhomes travel tale from China’s green southwest
Before this trip, Guizhou was just a name on a map to me—somewhere between mountains and mist, not nearly as famous as Beijing or Shanghai. But now? It’s a place I carry with me. Quiet, green, soulful—and so deeply human.
Here’s what it was like to travel through this stunning province with Joyhomes, one peaceful step at a time.
🌳 Daydreams in Libo – Xiaoqikong Scenic Area
We began in Libo, and let me tell you, it felt like walking straight into a painting. Xiaoqikong Scenic Area is pure magic—mossy stone bridges, turquoise rivers, and mist drifting through the trees. We stood in awe at Laya Waterfall, but the real surprise was the 68-level cascade tucked into a narrow valley. Water flowed over stone like ribbons—quiet, steady, perfect.

🏘️ Tradition Comes Alive – Xijiang Miao Village
Next, we visited the Xijiang Miao Village, where culture isn’t displayed—it’s lived. The wooden stilt houses, the sounds of traditional instruments, the local elders weaving silver threads… it was beautiful. We even dressed in traditional Miao costumes—heavy, shimmering, regal—and I’ll admit, I felt a little like royalty walking those cobbled streets.
Highlight: Watching a local elder craft silver earrings by hand—no machines, just memory and skill.
💍 Kaili’s Hidden Treasure – Miaomei Cultural Museum
In Kaili, we stopped by the Miaomei Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum. It’s small, but filled with heart. The detail in the silver jewelry, the colors of the embroidery, and the quiet pride in preserving Miao art—it really stuck with me. It felt like stepping into a living storybook.
🌊 Gentle Waters – Tianhe Lake Scenic Area
Later that afternoon, we drifted along Tianhe Lake, where the reflections of the mountains danced on the water. There’s a peaceful rhythm here—stone bridges, forest trails, and the soft sound of paddles in the water. The kind of place where time slows down.
💦 Nature in Full Power – Huangguoshu Waterfall & Water Curtain Cave
No words can truly capture Huangguoshu Waterfall—you feel it more than you see it. The roar, the spray, the rush of air as it thunders down. But the coolest part? Walking behind the waterfall in the Water Curtain Cave. You see the world through a veil of water, and it’s nothing short of magic.
Tip: Don’t forget a waterproof jacket—it gets misty fast!
🏞️ Karst Wonders – Wanfenglin & Wanfeng Lake
Wanfenglin Scenic Area is all jagged green peaks poking into the sky like a natural skyline. It’s dramatic and dreamlike, especially when the clouds drift low. We followed it up with a peaceful boat ride on Wanfeng Lake, where the only sound was the soft splash of oars and the wind in the trees.

🌄 Adventure Meets Calm – Maling River Canyon
One of my personal favorites? Maling River Canyon. Towering cliffs, narrow walkways, waterfalls dropping beside you… and that perfect kind of quiet that only nature can give. I stopped more times than I could count, just to breathe it in.
Must-snap: Hanging vines and caves glowing with light from the canyon edge
🏯 Step Back in Time – Qingyanzhen Ancient Town
Tucked into the hills, Qingyanzhen is all red lanterns and stone-paved streets. It’s a Ming-Qing era town that’s still full of life—craft shops, calligraphy stalls, and locals chatting on stoops. We wandered aimlessly, found the perfect street snack, and watched the day slowly melt into golden hour.
🌉 City Icons – Jiaxiu Tower & Qianling Mountain
Our final day in Guiyang brought a mix of culture and calm. We took photos at Jiaxiu Tower, with the city skyline behind us, then made our way up Qianling Mountain, where the views were worth every step. Monkeys chattered in the trees, incense drifted from a temple, and I found myself quietly reflecting on all we’d seen.

✈️ Final Thoughts:
This trip wasn’t flashy. It didn’t rush. And that’s what made it so special.
It reminded me that travel isn’t always about ticking boxes. Sometimes, it’s about waterfalls that make you feel small. Tea under a tree in a village you can’t pronounce. Laughter in a borrowed costume. A slow boat on still water.
Guizhou is a gentle kind of wonder.
And with Joyhomes, every step felt like it was exactly where I was meant to be.
